"Those Who Live By The Sword..."

 

I try not to get angry regarding the clown circus in DC. I try to step back and view it as a witness to history. Our hands are tied, so pulling out my hair and falling in a rabbit hole will only ruin me. We are watching one man destroy this country. So now we can understand the phenomena when we have seen this happen in other countries. I'm not going to rant over his renovation projects or his golf outings or his gold plated everything because those things can be fixed in time. But to watch him share images of his fancy ballroom with such glee as children in this country will go to bed hungry is astonishing. It is absolutely appalling. What is it with the people he is surrounded by who support him? How do they justify such cruelty? I don't care if mom and dad are the laziest, stupidest grifters who try to beat the system every chance they get. I have a family member who used the system for years. One year she had invited me to a Thanksgiving feast. I arrived a day early and asked to help her out with any prep. She took me into her kitchen where food was stacked everywhere. The refrigerator was loaded with a twenty pound turkey, vegetables, fruit, soda, beer, wine and desserts. The countertop was covered with bags of flour, rice, spices and more desserts. We drank delicious wine as we spent several hours making pies and cakes and prepping ingredients for side dishes. As we talked someone rang the doorbell. My relative looked out the window, looked at me and put her fingers to her lips. She whispered for me to stay in the kitchen while she answered the door. I could hear her talking to a couple of people who wished her a happy thanksgiving and would pray she have better times ahead. I then heard them say a prayer, wish her well and leave. A few minutes later my family member walks into the kitchen with a box loaded with food. Another turkey, more vegetables and treats for her children. I was absolutely sickened by her deception. She felt no shame in lying about their situation. Her thought process was that "they" have plenty to give. Be the taker and not the taken was her motto. Everyone does it.

Here's the thing. Not everyone does it. In a country where a gallon of milk costs close to six dollars and the minimum wage is seven, people are hurting. Not everyone who asks for food is out to deceive because most people have a conscience, most people feel like garbage having to ask for food to feed their children. The people in authority who deny children a plate of red beans and rice, believe the majority of SNAP users are grifters like my relative. The orange man takes money away from babies to build monstrosities. He has alienated the entire world. He has made a fortune in ten months by insider trading and Bitcoin scams. All while citizens suffer. This is food. This is where you make your stance? 

I don't want to be a part of an historical event, yet, here we are. So, we must record it. We must remember it. We must never forget they took food away from children to build a circus tent for the clown king.

I haven't seen the grifter relative for many years. She still tries to get something for nothing. For one person like her there are thousands who are good, hardworking people who sometimes just need a break.
