A Few Thoughts. Zero Prayers
Gee, now I feel bad I made a comment the other day about Charlie Kirk and his not so handsome features. Now he's dead. The posts on Bluesky run from, "He was a shithead who believed everyone should gun up, but he didn't deserve this." to "Meh, let's move on." Honestly, I go back and forth. He absolutely was a shithead who would most likely be alive today if not for the ideology he stood by. When you live by the creed that some of y'all are just gonna have to die because that's just the way it is, it's difficult to bring up any sympathy. I doubt he ever thought he would become a "y'all." He was not a good guy. I'm not going to mourn for him. I can't even lament over where we are now, a rootin' tootin' wild West. It's every man and woman for themselves. And you know this will give the MAGAS the excuse to go after the libtards. An eye for an eye. A neck for a neck. Even though they're way ahead in the body count, it's not about getting even. It's about being able to hold a weapon, aim and shoot. Ah, pure bliss. Now they have an excuse to go extra maga crazy. Right now the regime is going after the brown people. Soon, they'll be coming for the demoRats. I've never owned a gun, never even held one. I don't intend to go out and buy one. I will not kill another human being no matter how despicable they are. If I happen to be in the wrong place whilst some nutter takes us out, so be it. Whoever shot Kirk started a new day of reckoning in this country. Don't expect anyone to sit down at a table and discuss how we can get out of this mess. That will never happen. Instead, we will see more acts of violence like what happened in Minnesota. There were eight articles in The Guardian today about Kirk (which makes me sad I renewed my subscription) while there was nothing about the school shootings in Colorado Springs. We have become so desensitized to children being shot it's no longer newsworthy. And yet, this horror of a human will get loads of articles, blogs, podcasts, flags at half staff, medals, statues... Yep, I see the irony as I write this blurb. I add nothing to the pot, but it would seem weird to ignore an event that is so much a part of who and what we are. People who disagree with each other are all set to shoot and kill. During my one on a half dozen angry anti- Newsom mob showdown on Bluesky last night, where I received a stream of vitriol, there was one comment with a cartoon video of someone holding a rifle, aiming, and kaboom- the implication being I should be shot and killed because we had differing opinions. That is where we are in this country.
I can't cry for anyone anymore. I've used up all my tears. So while I'm among people who'd prefer to put a gun against someone's head to silence them, I'll still live as I always have. I'll have my coffee, read a book, wash the dishes, take a walk and just be.
