More Thoughts And Prayers

Just over the weekend my twelve year old granddaughter and I were talking about school. She's a good student and a social butterfly, yet, she is not looking forward to going back to school next week. I didn't push the subject, but then she brought up safety measures regarding the school, comparing them with other schools in our state that have the latest technology and armed police guards at every entrance. This is a twelve year old girl who should be thinking about boys and clothes and after school parties. She's discussing logistics and weighing her chances of being killed. Brown people are not the problem in this country and never have been. It's disassociated, angry white males who have a chip on their shoulder and a gun in their hand. Our government has no solution. No one has a solution, although it's a fairly obvious one. Our total lack of urgency regarding the murders of more children is just another big red flag waving in the wind regarding how very broken this country is. We are so very sick I don't even know how we have managed this long fooling ourselves and the world that we are a prospering, free nation of happy souls other countries would love to emulate. The mask is off and the ruse exposed.

Now, we either face the truth and work together to find tough solutions. Or, we can continue to stick our heads in the sand until we are another North Korea.

I am sick with shame when I listen to my grandchild figuring out her odds for survival.

Shame on all of us.
