Good Morning America, How Are Ya?
I love trains. I prefer train travel to any other transportation. I have traveled to Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington D.C. and lovely Carbondale on a train.
My love for trains began early, when during Summer nights when the house was stifling, my sisters and I would spread out our blankets on the back porch to sleep. I'd listen to the far off mournful cry of a freight train. It seemed mystical to me.
Taking a train into Chicago and sitting in the great room was a wonder. I have had quite a few experiences in Union Station, waiting for trains.
But, that's for another time.
Now, Trump has aimed his bloodshot eyes towards AMTRAK. The CEO has just resigned, which is quite ominous.
I can't say AMTRAK doesn't have issues. No, I sure cannot say that. Anyone who has ridden the rails will attest to the fact, AMTRAK has to do better.
My last trip was several years ago... Actually, it was the last time the orange man was in office. I was visiting D.C. during a heat wave. It was probably the worst of my train experiences. The bathrooms were filthy. Employees were grumpy and the food was awful. Never choose coach if you can afford a roomette. The things you see and hear in coach...
On the way home I made a stop in Ohio to visit family for a few days. When it was time to head home they dropped me off at the Sandusky train depot and they sat with me as we waited to catch the 4am westbound train. We hugged and said goodbye, then we awkwardly waited and waited. I felt horrible as my sisters refused to leave. Two hours later, we were informed there was a mechanical delay. Eventually another train arrived and allowed me to climb aboard. The other train did not arrive into Sandusky until I was home, five hours later.
As Roseanne Roseanndanna would say, "It's always sumpthin'."
With Amtrak it usually is.
It's also a wonderful way to see the gorgeous scenery like the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Donner Pass, Glacier National Park. I saw small towns like Fargo or Havre, Mt. (Brett pronounces it, Harve)
Where else can you see an Amish father, a Mormon missionary and a cowboy converse?
Hey, maybe MAGA man can make it better?
Hahahaha. Sorry. Lost my mind there for a moment.
