A Guy Walks Into A Bar... To Watch An Execution
I once got stuck talking to a man who was moving to Montana. He was heading there to go help out his brother who was going through a rough time. I could tell he didn't want to live in Montana and as pretty as it is, I wouldn't want to live there either. People in Montana live there for a reason. They love the wildness of the state. They also love their privacy and don't like noseybodies, especially the government getting in their business. I don't want to generalize a whole state, but I don't think I'm too far off the mark. When I read an article in the Daily Rag my heart sank. It was about the owner of a bar who has plans to view the live stream execution of Nidal Hasan. They are going to treat it like a celebration. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a great interest in the occasion. This whole surreal possibility reminds me of those horrible movies where people are chosen to be hunted for sport. It too is viewed live as people gather to cheer on a hopefully violent and gruesome death. It really is difficult to separate fact from fiction these days. I can only assume Hegseth wants everyone to watch as a warning. This could be you if you don't obey our rules.
What kind of human being would cheer on the death of a human being? I never quite understood why the punishment for murder is murder? I don't have a problem punishing people who have done great harm. Frankly, I believe we're too easy on repeat offenders. And I absolutely hate the idea of probation. You either go to prison or you don't. None of this weekly check ins, classes to become a better human, ankle monitors, car doodads, cameras, drug tests. It's a perfect storm for failure. You did something bad, do the time. That's it. And if that means spending the rest of your life behind a steel door, so be it. We have zero right or reason to take a human life. And then to have a party where you chug beer and howl at the television- it makes me physically ill thinking about it.
You are not a good person if you approve of this despicable act. I am hoping someone with balls can intervene before this heinous live murder occurs because there's no going back if it happens. As a country we have fallen. Are we still decent human beings?
