Review of Project Hail Mary

 


I was visiting a friend yesterday and we watched the movie, 'Project Hail Mary.' If you are on Bluesky you may have noticed the constant feeds by "people" who just LOVE this movie. 

Spoiler Alert! Dr. Grace (Ryan Gosling) is a brilliant scientist who teaches middle school kids about science. First of all, the scene with the kids wanting to know about science is a big fat fake. This is America, where we treat our teachers with disdain and hate science even more. But, I digress. So, this brilliant mind is teaching in a school because he can't seem to behave himself. He's a bit of a clown with a temper. Not exactly like the Terrifier clown but more, a goofy nerd. One day a group of scientists stop by and threaten him and his career because they need his mind to solve a very big problem. Something is eating our sun and all the stars except for one. Grace helps them figure out the problem in five seconds and then tells them, "good luck," whereupon the mad boss lady scientist has him drugged and forced on a spaceship to save the universe. There he meets an alien who looks like a rock. In three minutes they learn to communicate and gosh darn, aren't they adorable? The rock, too is a goofy nerd and they play together and learn how to save mankind and alien kind as a team.

Ryan Gosling is just so lovable in this film, as is the rock. It's all made for you to laugh, cry, seeth, in all the right places. It's Basic 101 in filmmaking, but using a vast amount of money in props which are pretty good. I won't tell you the ending. It's a true bromance here. The only woman in the film is a giant bitch and the men are the saviors of our universe. 

I can see why people like the story, although I don't think they realize they are being led by the nose to react precisely as the makers intended. Lots of movies do this. Steven Spielberg is a master of manipulation. ET, Jaws, and his own latest alien movie which pulls you in by telling you how you should be feeling. 

I liked the movie because it had a happy ending (oops) but ... none of it seems even remotely plausible. That's why we're in the shit storm we are in right now. We have a Dr. Fauci and not a Dr. Grace. Our doctor is being harassed, threatened, vilified, demeaned and stalked by people in power. Our doctor, too, tried to save the world, at least our part, and is being crucified. If it ever happens that some entity starts eating the sun and stars, just follow that age old advise, bend over and kiss your butt goodbye.

She's Still Dead

   Ashli Babbitt was a traitor to this country. They can have all the ceremonial shenanigans the military likes to present as the deceased has been offered full military honors (We all know who requested that) it still won't negate the fact that she and thugs like her stormed a government building to do harm to others. They shit in the hallways. They carried confederate flags. They brought zip ties, bats and rage. Benny, Benny And No Regrets

  It's just so hard to keep up with maga creeps. Here's Benny  Johnson, the guy who started the rumor that DC was a cesspool. He also claimed his house burned down while his family was in it. He's a liar. His house never burned down. You really can't believe much of what this asshat says because he has a habit of playing with facts. He also likes to steal other people's words. He has been fired and suspended numerous times for plagiarism, at least 41 times. It just boggles my mind when these people blatantly lie, then are outraged when called out. People like Johnson, Trump and Leavitt have probably lived their whole lives creating a make believe existence where lying is the norm.
