"The Great Firewall"

I've been watching this YouTube channel for awhile now. It is created by a woman who lives in China where she discusses her daily life. For all I know she could be running a scam, but she seems sincere. I've seen a few channels of other Chinese people sharing how rough life is and they are clearly just asking for money. That's YouTube in a nutshell. I don't mind if someone can make a living by creating interesting content, but it bugs me when they are there only to ask for financial assistance. I've mentioned in a previous post the dream like couple from Azerbaijan who live in a utopian world. I felt something was off and I was right to be suspicious. It's just propaganda to show us what life is allegedly like in the old/new country. It's all bullshit. Naturally there are a dozen copycats who see this as a way to separate you from your wallet. The Chinese woman, her name is Guyi  (pronounced Gooey) is living in a large city after moving from her parent's home who still live in the country. She mentions the 996 lifestyle in China. Work from 9 am to 9 pm, six days a week. She sends money to her mother every month while Guyi lives in a place not much better than a cardboard box. She was born during the one child only policy which began in the 80's and remained  a law until 2016 when the government realized the negative impact it had regarding a work force. In her latest video she talks about how Chinese couples deliberately have children in order for them to take care of them in later years. Naturally they prefer a male who has a better chance at a good job and can physically last longer. China created the social security system thirty years ago. It's still in the process of being worked out to actually be a benefit. Guyi informs the viewers how the population has dwindled in China. The likelihood of the social security system working is tenuous.

If you watch the video I've linked above you'll notice Guyi is a very somber person. That is her demeanor in every video. Whether it's bs, I don't know. I'd be truly disappointed if she was using her viewers to gain sympathy to part with some cash. In her previous video she mentions the oppressive heat and shares with viewers she doesn't have an air conditioner. I then noticed in the comment section she received a substantial amount of money in order to buy one for her apartment/box.

Technically, YouTube is not allowed in China. It's called the Great Firewall. Many like Guyi use a vpn to hide from the government. Seems pretty dangerous. I'm not sure how a farmer's daughter learned how to bypass the system. Again, I truly hope we're not being bamboozled because, one, I like her, and two, it's interesting to see how the Chinese live today, so I'd like to continue to see how she lives, although I worry for her safety.

Pretty much everything she has said about life in China hits far too close to what we are facing in this country. I constantly read that our social security system will fail in six years. Freedom of speech is being taken away by our government. Do not get sick in America. Do not take a long break from a job. Cut out meat and expensive produce. And have children to care for you when you are older.

Anyhow, I'm quite depressed after watching her video. It's a tough world and it should not be this way for anyone. We are not automatons to be used for the elite.

I will continue to watch Guyi, but will stop if every video is going to be about money difficulties.

Stay tuned....
