One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other
They stood behind Trump for twenty-two minutes. They never said a word. The orange man talked about himself and how he's in excellent shape and sound of mind, very intelligent. They could suit him up tomorrow and he's ready to go.
I'm not sure why people who have done something so amazing fuck it up to stand behind an asshole who has zero interest in them. These astronauts, the women's tennis team, the jockey hockey misogynist dopes.
Why?
I was feeling nostalgic for a brief time because I felt like my happy self when watching the astronauts go around the moon in early April. In these past few years where I am mentally exhausted I nearly cried because for a few moments it was beautiful to see something so humanly amazing. There was no hate, anger or divisiveness. It was people, doing their jobs, loving the moment, all without rancor or animosity. We were witnessing the best of humanity. It felt really good to watch four people who seemed to care and respect each other, work together as a team. More than that, it was so fun to live vicariously through them as they "ooohed" and "aaahed" like five year olds by what they were seeing out there, 238,855 miles from home. They never took for granted how very fortunate they were. They had worked damn hard to be the chosen ones. They also knew the risks, but that's what special people do sometimes, take a leap that will provide information about our universe.
Then they stand behind the blowhard who asks them nothing- not one question directed towards them. Of course it's hard to talk to people who stand outside your viewing range. This is a man who needs the attention focused on him. To Trump they were just tools for a photo op, a snap of history for his "library." I just don't understand why anyone who has any self respect would mitigate their amazing achievement by visiting this modern day fuhrer? They don't look particularly comfortable standing in his presence. I'm not sure what they expected. Did they even get a burger and coke at least? Twenty-two minutes.
You could have refused the invitation I whisper into the ether. You didn't have to say anything deragatory towards the regime to get out of it. A "No, thank-you," would have sufficed I say into the void.
N-O. It's a powerful word. We need to start using it.
