Happy Birthday, Dolly

The New York Times asks, "Is there anything we can agree on?" Yes! Dolly Parton

Parton turns 80 years old today. Every once in awhile a phenomenon occurs. The planets align, there is peace in the valley, a child is born who will lead the way. Born in a one room cabin near the banks of  the Pigeon river, Dolly was number four of twelve children born to an illiterate sharecropper and her mother who had twelve children by the age of thirty-five. Her mother was Dolly's musical influence, passing down her knowledge of songs sung in the old country. Dolly claims she started writing songs at the age of five, with now over 3,000 attributed to her. She married one man and stay married to one man until his death in 2024. Dolly's Imagination Library has gifted over 300 million books over the past thirty years.

It doesn't take much imagination when comparing Dolly to that other almost 80 year old. It's like darkness to pure light. One, born into a family of wealth where any form of affection was denied, to one where stories were shared, where love bloomed. One who never picked up a book, to one who has written numerous books. One who steals trophies to one who claims they are not important.

Is it any wonder so many people love her?

Be a Dolly.

Happy birthday, girl.
