"Humans Are..."

Phew. It's over. The last season of the Squid Game was absolutely amazing, if you like that sort of thing. That sort of thing being people who have gotten themselves into a predicament they have little chance of getting out of. Most are in debt or have family members who are sick, so when the chance to play games for a fortune comes their way, they seize the moment.

The violence and brutality may be too much for some people. So what kept me coming back? Mostly because of the main character, Gi-hun, portrayed by, Lee Jung- jae, who was absolutely brilliant.

The story begins with Gi-hun, a lazy pos who lives with his mother after his divorce. He steals from his mother to gamble and is in debt to the mob. He has a ten year old daughter who only wants him to notice her, yet he is incapable of human kindness when only concerned with his problems. The metamorphosis of this character through the three seasons is probably the best acting I have seen in a long time. The majority of the actors in this series were terrific. If you haven't watched a Korean tv series or movie you are missing out on some of the finest stories in ages.

The Squid Game is tough to watch because we are living it. As the players fight to the death, they are being watched by the few elite who enjoy the slide into the worst behavior of humanity. We haven't gotten to the game part yet, but I can see Kristi in her pink outfit, gazing down on "contestants" who must fight each other for an extra slice of bread. And who's to stop them? No one. There is no detective Hang Jun-ho trying to save us.

Sound familiar? Maybe that's one reason I've watched this series. I want to believe good will overcome bad. It's a naive thought, I know. Just look back if you dare into our past. We have not learned a damn thing. We continue to engage in the same ugly and horrific behavior of our ancestors.

And now back to the show already in progress- There are a lot of very bad people here, the players, the guards and the uber rich. Yet, there are a few people like Gi-hun who holds on to his humanity to the very end.

Season one deserved the notice it received. Season two was not good. The storyline was confusing and boring. There wasn't meant to be a continuance after the first season which is probably why two wasn't thought out enough. Some of the acting was over the top. The writers redeemed themselves with season three which is supposed to be the finale, but there were enough clues at the end to make us all wonder and hope for more. Hope for more!!? It's a shoooow. It's not real because there's cool games in it.

Spoiler alert!! If you're looking for consequences to be held for the VIP's it doesn't happen. Just like real life.

Hey, if I have to watch the world fall apart, there may as well be some children's games to play.
