What Tales We Weave

I remember reading about Yeonmi Park years ago. Her story about defecting from North Korea with her mother was so intense and emotional. She eventually came to America, married and created a YouTube channel where she talked about her life. After watching a few of her videos I became sceptical to what I was hearing, because after all she had been through, she remains a far right conservative. I began to read news articles about her where people questioned her harrowing tale of what she and her family had gone through. There was contradiction after contradiction. She claims her account of events was misinterpreted because she didn't speak English. Other North Koreans who defected also doubted her journey - one example being her narrative of how she and her mother climbed mountains to reach China. There are no mountains where they allegedly made their escape, only a river. She claims she and her mother were sex slaves at one time, although her mother gives a different story. She is a staunch far right conservative which brings me to wonder if she is still brainwashed or, if she is just a liar who enjoys the attention she receives.

I hadn't thought about her in years until today when I saw a video of her posted on Bluesky. She is still a Reich wing supporter who blames the left for being traitors to the country.

She doesn't seem to understand the very government she loves would ship her butt back to North Korea in a heartbeat. The country who welcomed her, allowed her to speak her far right views and criticize the citizens is being threatened every single day. They want to silence us.

I really don't know what is going on inside her head. Her position angers and mystifies me. I can't help but see her as a troubled, spoiled, opportunist who will do and say anything to survive. ( If you question that, take a look at who she married)

As an American and a front row witness to the destruction of the rule of law, it angers me when foreigners have the gall to condemn us. After what we have done to help other countries be better we are now the joke, a broken body you boldly dare to now spit on.

So far Ms. Park, you have had the greatest gift this country could offer, freedom of speech. You are allowed to be a fucking moron, and as I see on your channel, you have other illiterates who use their first amendment rights, to praise and admire you.

I hope for your sake and mine, we can continue to have opposing views we can freely discuss without fear of arrest or punishment.

Remember what you wish for, lady.
