A Dear John Letter

Clearly, there is something very wrong with John Fetterman. His outburst last week at a meeting with representatives of a teacher's union, where people were visibly upset, some in tears because they realized how very sick he seems to be.

Now, the people who say they love him must intervene.

Fetterman has many health issues including having a stroke in 2022. Doctors said there was no brain damage or cognitive issues. Perhaps over time the damage intensifies, or, he has had another stroke.

Being a witness to seeing the effects a stroke can cause, I urge his family to get him help.

My mother laid on the sofa in the living room for two days before my father even noticed she needed help. Seeing her after she was diagnosed with having a stroke was a shock. She could no longer speak coherently. She was incontinent and had to wear adult diapers. She would burst into angry growls when frustrated with people around her who couldn't understand her.

Before she had her first stroke she was taking massive amounts of acetaminophen to stop the headaches. A few weeks before her stroke I had been staying at the house for a weekend visit. During the night I heard her calling out to me. When I entered her bedroom I saw her blanket and even the carpet covered with blood. She had a nose bleed which would not stop bleeding. As I ran to call 911, I passed my father's bedroom and noticed he was awake and sitting at the edge of his bed. Later, after my mom came home I wondered about that moment. How long had he been sitting there doing nothing while she cried out for me? When she was at the hospital she was treated for the nose bleed. No tests were taken, no questions were asked. I don't blame the doctor or staff who cared for her that night. I'm sure she wanted to be out of there as quickly as possible and told them everything was just fine. Both my parents ignored health issues until it was too late to do anything.

Do not wait if you feel something is wrong. Do not back down if you feel you are being dismissed or ignored. Minutes matter.

We cannot be angry with John Fetterman. His decline must be absolutely terrifying for him, but, he must step down and receive the care he needs.
