So, the clown has issued a proclamation. English is to be spoken here. I'm not sure exactly what that entails. Do people who speak another language out in the streets get arrested? Will learning new languages in school be banned?

Hey, I'm all for people who come to this country and plan to stay learn the language. It does bug me when people who have lived here twenty- thirty years can't speak English, but that's the Karen in me speaking. If they prefer not to care what's going on, that's ok, but I'm guessing any multilingual help is going to be gone. Nothing bussin' is gonna come from this. These times are not the goat.
My bestie and I were taking selfies because we're drip, and we were conversating about words and how every generation has their time to destroy the English word. Now, I realize throwing out a few slang terms is not the same as alienating the supposed melting pot we once were.
Can you imagine Ellis Island on a day when thousands of people came through from all different places? German, Polish, Chinese, Russian .. What an amazing scene it must have been. I can visualize my grandmother just arriving from Sweden, not fully comfortable speaking English, yet she learned, and she had a community of her "kamrater" (peers) to help her. Their language was used, it was written and read in public places, along with hundreds of other languages.
I think every nationality gets the American initiation where they have to go through a hazing period. They eventually assimilate. They became Americans. That doesn't mean they give up their identity, their culture or heritage. What a boring world it would be, yet, that is where we seem to be heading.
