Dismantling Humanity
I remember the day my mom called me and asked me if I could take her to the bank to cash her very first social security check.
When I arrived I could see she was excited to finally have some independence with money she earned by paying into the system since she started working at the age of fifteen.
Money was always a struggle in our household, with two adults, five girls and a cast of feral cats who knew mom was an easy mark and came and went as they pleased.
Dad was a postal carrier and Mom waited tables in restaurants, never staying long with any of them. When she needed money she would take third shift at the 24 hour diner. I only learned later, after I was married and gone how much my dad made every two weeks. It was shocking to realize two adults and five children lived on such a paltry amount. On top of the low wage, Dad just assumed Mom could create miracles with the budget he gave her to pay bills and buy groceries. We always knew when funds were drying up when we were served spaghetti with watered down tomato sauce for dinner.
Many very loud verbal "discussions" with Dad happened between fish stick Friday and "not again" soupghetti. The mostly one way onslaught involved a lot of cabinet doors slamming and pots and pans banging, along with the popular "Jesus, Mary and Joseph," blasphemy.
Then, she was gone. She would come home, exhausted, smelling of coffee and French fries.
I knew how important that first social security check was to her. It was her money she could spend however she pleased. Dad had no say. Her girls were on their own by then.
She had earned every penny.
Now, a few billionaires who were born lacking any human qualities are deciding the fate of 70 million people.
These are the bungholes who can't work a phone without jeopardizing the entire country, yet they want to dismantle the lifeline for the elderly who have no other source of income. People are going to die.
I really have to wonder if these soulless beings are doing this because they enjoy witnessing the suffering of others, they revel in destroying the structure of humanity.
I'm glad Mom had a few years to enjoy her deserved retirement.
Now, we need to fight for what is an absolute right.
