90 Million Stayed Home

I have relatives who have never voted in any election. They are not interested in politics and apparently don't care what happens. They just go with the flow of ignorance.

I had to look to see how many other people stayed home November 5th.

Turns out it's a lot. 90 million people decided voting wasn't important enough to drive, walk, write in, to make their voices heard.

Only 64% of eligible voters came out that day.

I have a niece who lives in her own bubble. She whines about everything. She cannot keep a job. She complains about gas prices, food prices, the cost of partying. She actually had the nerve to ask on FB funds for a concert she wanted to attend. This at a time when her mother, my sister, couldn't work because she had been living with an injury she didn't have insurance to get fixed. My niece says every single day she loathes the way she looks, despises who she is as she posts another selfie on her media feed. Every single day. She has zero interest in the world around her. She cannot have children. She has PCOS, but with fertility treatments she would have a chance to have a baby. Instead of getting involved with trying to change laws and allowing women better health options, she whines on her feed the unfairness of her life.

We all get angry and frustrated with politics and politicians and court jesters who pull the strings of one orange man.

Can you imagine if we all stayed home? In Australia it is mandatory to vote. But here's the thing. In this country we are given the freedom of choice. We are not forced to decide our future.

I would think everyone would be so grateful for such a gift.

Yet. 90 million people had something better to do that day.
