"Stop,Waymo, Stop!"
We can laugh now, cause they're alright. But, WTF!? Why? Why would you ever get into a self driving car? These people did and surprise, surprise, Waymo did what Waymo wanted, which was disregard those orange cones and plow on through. The passengers kept screaming for Waymo to stop, but it had a mission. Honestly, this is the first I have heard of Waymo. I have heard of Tesla, and a truly horrible accident occurred recently where a self driving Tesla plowed into a woman's home, killing her as she sat in her living room. Google is the Daddy of this company which started around 2007. It's had some controversy regarding its cars driving past school buses. Shockingly, no one has been killed in a Waymo robo taxis, although there have been many serious injuries purportedly not the fault of Waymo. Other autonomous vehicles cannot claim the same.
Seriously, I do not understand this self driving baloney. What is the reasoning behind this invention? If you can't drive, use public transportation, hire a driver, a HUMAN and stop playing Russian roulette with your life and innocent people. I don't have much sympathy for the idiots who were in the car. They concede the gimmick is not ready. Newsflash!!! It never will be safe and it's the stupidest idea invented.
No one was hurt in this incident, thankfully. After the plowing through of road construction the car eventually pulled over, probably quite proud of achieving requested destination.
People bitch about AI all the time, complaining it will take away our thought process because we no longer have to work our brains, just let a machine do the work. It certainly is a possibility. We all know there are people who let others do the thinking for them or try to find the easiest way through life. People aren't going to stop writing or painting or inventing. I have no issue with a machine creating beautiful things. But when you get into a 4,000 pound vehicle because you wanna take a nap or you get nervous driving on the expressway, you've already lost any critical thinking. As humans, we are fallible. We make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes have big consequences, like turning back to yell at a kid in the backseat and BAM! air bags deploy. If the aforementioned runaway Waymo is any indication of future events, a robo taxi/bus/car is no safer.
Hey, it's your decision. The poor woman sitting in her living room had no input. Just think about that. We need more thinking and asking ourselves, "Is this helpful or harmful?" "Is this really a good idea?"
