Uh, The Obama Library, Uh...

😬 When it comes to architecture I like gargoyles and carved wood. One reason I love walking in Chicago is looking at the beautiful buildings that have character and were created by skilled masters. But, I also love Frank Lloyd Wright's minimalist design which tries to incorporate nature.

I don't know what the fuck the Obama Library is. It's a giant block of cement, something you see in Russia where the peasants reside. The building was designed by the team of Tod Williams and Billie Tsien. As I looked them up I noticed they have a style. Cement. They like no frills, prison grade ugly. I'm hoping the inside will blow us away, like when you enter a Harry Potter tent to find a vast, but cozy setting. I truly don't understand the design.

Holy crap, this structure cost $850 million dollars! That's more than Trump's fantasy ballroom estimate, although that keeps rising as well. Seriously, that's a lot of money and even though Barack Obama was an amazing president, one who deserves a building named after him, this is the one? I'm assuming he approved of the design. It's really big. It definitely stands out in the city skyline in the background.

The center opens on Juneteenth and I'm sure there will be a crowd. So, I won't completely judge a book or a building by its cover. Hopefully the innards will mitigate the outer shell. As long as the walls aren't covered in faux gold bought from Hobby Lobby, it should be fine. Should be fine. 😬

This is baffling to me because Obama's campaigns had some of the best aesthetics I can remember. Really nice graphic design work and just a generally good sense of taste. WTF happened?

It really does stand out. And not in a good way.
