The Bro Splaining Man

One moment can change a life. I am so glad I did a little digging regarding this meme which at first glance infuriated me. I wanted to know more about the picture which was incredibly hard to do with little information to go on. I googled various scenarios and got nothing until I noticed a caption which said it was Anna Kournikova. Boy, was that a misleading trail. Eventually, Google understood my query and led me to this YouTube video. The mansplainer. He's been called loads of different things and is forever going to be judged by this meme which probably triggered a lot of women because of his hand on her neck. She seems completely disinterested and maybe she was. Dustin, the bro splaining man, says they are not together, but still friends. He seems to realize there is not much he can do regarding the meme, which has been floating around since 2011. This guy seems so nice and worlds away from that one tiny instance in his life, one where I and millions of others have judged him. He takes it all in stride but I can only imagine the thousands of other memes which have affected real people who were used as characters in either a positive or negative way. I haven't been feeling great about myself lately, realizing how absolutely judgey I have been.

I recently watched a video short with Dr. Youn, who is on YouTube and is such a cool guy. In the video he blasts a few viewers who thought they could leave comments criticizing his staff about their personal appearance. It was mean and absolutely pointless criticism. The Dr. was angry and rightfully so. As I watched him tell these people to f off, I really had a moment where I asked myself, "Have I done that?" I certainly have no kind words for Trump and his Maga crew. I have been known to call the Maga women a few names which are meant to be hurtful. I laughed at Druski's parody of Erika Kirk. Of course she was hurt. It was meant to hurt. I don't like Kirk's ideology, her beliefs, but I need to check myself and not use her appearance as something to mock. The cruelty is the same whether it's a well known influencer or a stranger in a meme. The intention is to demoralize and get a few laughs at the expense of others.

I am glad I searched for information about Dustin because I assumed the worst about him. I was humbled and ashamed because he is not who I thought he was. The Internet can be a wondrous place to find music, art, science and all sorts of amazing information. It can also be used to destroy and misinform. I just hope I can stop being so judgemental and start being at least a bit more questionable about what I am seeing. After finding out who the person is behind this meme, I'm hoping I can learn to be a bit kinder. I must remember that I don't need to have an opinion about everything I hear or read. One image, a moment taken at a ballgame does not depict the life or personality of either of these people. We are so much more than one click of a moment.

It is almost always punching down, even when it's a deserving maga, isn't it? A lot of people just aren't prepared for life in general or fame in particular. I think Ericka Kirk is one of them. She just will never realize it. This guy, Dustin, just turned out to be so nice, such a regular guy. At first, I thought it was Blake Griffin, a former NBA player who does a lot of commercials now, and maybe Paris Hilton. Just weird that a second in time can last for so long, for such a silly reason!
