AI Didn't Bomb Iran

I realize I write about artificial intelligence a bit here because I find it interesting, more so because of the reaction it receives from mere mortals. I am fully aware of the environmental footprint AI creates if what I read is to be believed and if it is using massive amounts of clean water to run its system then there has to be better solutions made. That does not mean we throw away the whole idea of AI in our lives. It's here, people, and it's not going away. A lot of the stories I read are to scare the bejesus out of you, like this one that want you to completely disavow the use of AI. The article from The Guardian claims a man killed himself after cutting off ties with AI. His wife said he had been using ChatGPT for nearly twelve hours a day. He had originally started using the app to get ideas to build their sustainable living business. She said it became an obsession, one he gave up most likely at her insistence and then committed suicide. Like other people who have lost relatives to the AI world she intends to sue. It's all AI's fault these people went off the deep end according to them.

This is where I say, "bollocks." AI wasn't the cause of someone unraveling. They were already fragile minds using a machine to connect, to find a friend, a confidant, something they felt they needed in their lives. That doesn't say a whole lot about the people in their lives, but now that someone is dead, they sure are interested now. They want to make a profit off the lives of someone who clearly had mental issues.

I occasionally use ChatGPT. It's a fucking machine spewing out information. That's all it is. I have been accused by people on a certain social media of using AI for creating images of which is obvious and had nothing to do with the original discussion. It's just meant to attack and accuse me as if I give a shit and should feel shame. I don't. I think the majority of people who are so against AI are either in a business where they feel threatened by it or are old geezers who cannot stand change. They would have argued over electricity and indoor toilets back in the day.

AI can be useful. It is useful. It has been extremely beneficial in the medical industry. It makes jobs easier. It helps people to look at problems another way. It can create amazing art, music and stories. I know people would scoff at this, but tough shit. Your art isn't selling because of AI. It's not selling because you probably suck.

Millions of people use AI every single day, some not even realizing how prevalent it is, but they somehow don't get pulled into its clutches because they are in tune with reality.

For all these families who are suing AI, why don't you look inward and face the real reason the person close to you felt they needed zeros and ones to exist, why they couldn't talk to you, a human. Why?

I woke up this morning to see we are now bombing another country. Humans are doing that. One AI company refused to become complicit in the murder of humanity. So think again about who the enemy is here. Humans will destroy us, not a machine.
