Who Are You?

When I see a story in the news about a horrible event like a shooting, I think I'm like most people who want to know who could do such a thing. I want to see a face to connect to the monster. Knowing the identity of the two ICE agents who murdered Alex Pretti won't change anything. I don't plan on seeking them out or threatening them in any way. I just want to see what they look like. Usually there are no clues revealed. It's a human face, nothing special, nothing otherworldly about it, but I still try to find answers there.

Why did you kill him?

How could you kill a human being who was no threat to anyone?

What happened in your life that made you think it was ok to eliminate anyone who disagrees with your world view?

Mostly, I just see another person looking back, eyes fixed, face grim and there is nothing to give away any explanation to the whys.

Some people get angry when the public focuses more on the suspect rather than the victim. That's understandable. As often as we are faced on a daily basis with news of awful people doing horrible things, it's not the norm. While there are over nine billion people on this earth where most can coexist and just want to have a nice, peaceful life, we are inundated with the news of monsters who live among us.

I can only assume the two agents, who have gone into hiding, had very little experience in their field of seek and haul, or, intimidate and detain. I'm sure they're pro-Trump and anti-immigrants. They love guns. They most likely hunt for fun. They drink American beer, drive an American made truck, stand for the National Anthem at sporting events and hate anyone who thinks differently than themselves. Not exactly a monster, right? Just two Americans thinking they have God on their side. They are probably bland looking, maybe a beard, definitely no long haired hippie freak. Perhaps, a few patriotic tattoos and a dog waiting for them when they get home from a long day of searching for miscreants.

And yet, I need to know what a monster looks like these days.
