The Man Who Would Be POTUS
I have a like/dislike attitude towards Michael Wolff. He's extremely interesting to listen to once you get past the stuttering and his constant habit of interrupting Joanna Coles. He's probably not an easy man to live with. How he managed to marry a lovely, much younger woman is beyond me. I watched the video last night where Coles and Wolff discuss what's inside Trump's brain. Wolff believes it's the beginning of the end for Trump. It did give me some relief when he also mentioned how fleeting these people in politics are. So, if the orange man's time is near, that leaves us with JD Vance. Personally, I think Vance is an enigma. We really don't know where he stands politically because he isn't actually a politician. Wolff mentions Vance's book, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' which he concedes is a very good book. Wolff believes he's a writer, not a politician. I read the book many years ago and will agree with Wolff- Vance can write. He got into politics because of Peter Theil, co-founder of PayPal and a billionaire who groomed Vance for a political position. Theil bought Vance the VP position. I'm sure both are chomping at the bit to be temporary president if Trump happens to die, which is looking more likely every day. I honestly have no idea what kind of regime Vance will set up. Like Trump we can't believe anything he says because he has no political agenda, although Theil does. I do believe Vance wants out of his marriage and is going to use religion as the deal breaker. I also believe he's smitten with the widow Kirk but they need to lie low for awhile. She's still in mourning. (((eye roll)))
What we do know about Vance is that he knows what it's like to be a lower class citizen since his Mamaw received government assistance. He knows about drug addiction, because his mother stole pain killers from the patients she was hired to help. Vance likes to switch the narrative on that and blame the cartels. No, JD, your mama stole drugs from sick patients to feed her addiction.
I believe instead of learning from his past, he's ashamed. He didn't write, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' to show others that even coming from a hard beginning you can rise above, that you can overcome obstacles in life. I think he wrote it to declare that he never belonged. He was a special boy who was trapped with a bunch of uneducated, hard living government users who managed to escape by his own brilliance and ambition. He was a pearl in a bag of garbage. That's why he has no empathy for the people he lived among. He's embarrassed by them and the crappy card he was dealt. He rejects his past by making up a new life, one that seems to be a work in progress. I would have admired him if he could have been grateful or humble regarding his beginnings instead of acting as if he was superior to the people he grew up with. He's an intelligent man who has a cold heart. The next three years will be interesting if we survive through it.
